2017 Asian Film Academy Program
Short Film Production
AFA fellows will make two short films during the program. Among twenty four scripts submitted by the fellows, two are selected to produce two short films which will be screened at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival. The fellows are divided into two teams and each team goes through a collaborative filmmaking process from script development to the post-production with the support of faculty and professional crew.
Workshop & Mentoring
AFA invites experts from various filmmaking fields such as producing, directing, cinematography, production design, editing and sound engineering for exclusive workshops for AFA fellows. These workshops offer the fellows opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge of the subject as well as hands-on training guided by filmmaking experts. Moreover, AFA fellows get an opportunity to have a private mentoring session with the established filmmakers. During the session, the fellows discuss their current projects and learn from their mentors.
Special Lectures & Faculty Film Screening
AFA offers an opportunity to learn professional experiences from established directors. During the sessions, the fellows will appreciate and discuss the films of Kore-eda Hirokazu (Dean), Boo Junfeng (Directing Mentor) and Tooraj Mansoori (Cinematography Mentor).
AFA & MPA Film Workshop
AFA 2017 partners with the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and will launch a film workshop, "BRIDGE TO HOLLYWOOD" which involves a special lecture on developing and pitching film projects. Thanks to this new workshop, AFA fellows will have a rare opportunity to have individual film projects personally evaluated by professional film makers. A renowned Hollywood producer will participate as a workshop mentor to enlighten the participants and assess the pitching competition. Two winners from the pitching competition will have the opportunity to participate in a film education program and a film festival in the United States and Australia.
※ The MPA is an organization established to aspire the art of filmmaking and to promote the film industry, representing the interests of the six major producers and distributors of the US film industry. Their priority business is to safeguard the intellectual property rights and to promote global expansion of film business and international exchange. Headquartered in the US, they have worldwide operations in the Asia Pacific and Europe.
We also organize reunion-like meetings called AFA Network where the current fellows meet the former ones who are participated in the 22nd Busan International Film Festival. This opportunity will build relationships and networks between AFA fellows and become a stepping stone to collaborate on various projects in the future.
Graduation Ceremony and Short Film Screening
The final works of the fellows will be screened at the AFA Graduation Ceremony. The fellows will show their passion in the two short films made with the support of renowned masters and competent experts. It will be a great time to see potential for building up networks of Asian filmmakers and enjoy the fruits of collaboration, transcending language barriers and cultural differences.
