A recipient of Media Education Scheme Scholarship by Media Development of Authority Singapore (MDA), Derek was a producer and copywriter with a local production house before embarking on his dream to make films.

A versatile individual, Derek quit his full-time job in April 2005 to pursue an Advanced Diploma in Film Production at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Derek wants to pursue his deep passion - and that is to direct engaging films out of good and compelling stories. Derek was selected to attend the 6th Berlinale Talent Campus 2008 in Berlin. Derek currently works as a freelance director in TV commercials and corporate videos.
