Introduction
Ikhbayar Shagdarsuren was born in 8th of March, 1988 in Tsagaannuur, Khuvsgul aimak, Mongolia. Until 1995, he spent most of his time with his grandparents who were herders. From 1995 to 2005 (in 빼주세요) he lived in Baganuur, the furthest district of Ulaanbaatar. From his early childhood he was fascinated by the arts, especially cinema. In 2009, he graduated as a biotechnologist from the National University of Mongolia. During his first summer vacation, he worked as a coal miner for 3 months in Baganuur Mining Company. During his study, in 2009, he also worked as a trainee in Germany’s Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin for 2 months. In Berlin, he saw War and Peace by Sergei Bondarchuk in Berlinale Retrospective. From that moment on, he was fascinated by cinema even more. In 2009, he made his first 14 minute short film After the Sunset with his friend. In 2010, he made Two Girls (15 min), Unknown Memories (4 min – for the 48 Hour Film Project 2010 Mongolia). In September 2011, he won best director and best picture of the year award from the 48 Hour Film Project Mongolia for the film Appendix, Ear Drum, Adam’s Apple. In December 2011, he finished his 30 minute experimental short film called Subaudition.
