Born in Taipei, Cheng was inspired by movie makers like Wang Tung and Liao Ch′ing Sung. Her works have been featured in the World Shorts section of the Busan International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, and Taipei Film Festival. Cheng entered Golden Horse Film Academy in 2016 and learnt filmmaking with director Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Her film script for 《果》 was funded by the department of cultural affairs of New Taipei City in 2014. Cheng has participated in the production and creation of music videos and commercials, and graduated from Taipei National University of Arts, Department of Filmmaking.
