Maisa Demetillo studied at the University of the Philippines and finished a degree in Social Science where she majored in Psychology and Anthropology. After graduating she worked for a brief time at the National College of Public Administration and Governance at the UP.

Her first exposure to filmmaking was when she took up workshops at the Mowelfund Film Institute in 2001. From then on she has involved herself in film work in the independent movie making science and has learned much from interacting with different people she has encountered in this field.

She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Anthropology at the UP and she is hoping that she will also be able to incorporate and apply what she learns from anthropology in filmmaking.
